Homeopathy: Homeopathic Remedies for Fevers

Aconite – Chill alternates with heat. Dry burning intense fever; all parts of body. Must uncover; drenching sweat. Caused by dry cold winds. Anxious restlessness; predicts the day and hour of death.

Arsenicum – Worse after 2 a.m.; bad, contaminated food (food poisoning). Chills irregular. Craves hot drinks during chill. Heat as if hot water in veins; burns like fire. Drinks little and often. Anxious restlessness and rapid prostration.

Belladonna – Burning, steaming heat. Hot head with cold limbs-. Congested red, hot face and head; throbbing carotids; pupils dilated (photophibia). Sensitive to light and noise. No thirst with fever. Averse to covering.

Bryonia- Dry burning heat as if the blood burnt in the veins. Great thirst is chief characteristic, as well as aggr. from any motion. Better by absolute rest. Mental or physical. Amel. lying on painful side.

Chamomilla – Long lasting heat with violent thirst and frequent starting in sleep. Heat and shivering intermingled. Characteristics : One cheek red and hot, the other pale and cold. Child exceedingly fretful, amel. only when carried. Complaints from anger. Aversion to open air.

China – Well marked stages of chill-heat-sweat. Guiding : Intense thirst long before chill. No thirst as fever increases. Thirst begins when fever declines. The paroxysm anticipates from two to three hours; returns every 7 or 14 days; never at night. Sweat with great thirst.

Gelsemium – Fever without chill. Chill and heat without thirst. Long lasting heat. Complaints from bad news, fright, anticipation of an unusual ordeal, Child fears of falling, starts and grasps the nurse; screams for fear of falling. Sweat amel. all symptoms.

Lycopodiuin – Worse 4 to 8 p.m. or 6 to 8 pm. Chill severe with icy coldness as if lying on ice. Heat : thirst for warm drinks. Must uncover. Sour eructations, sour vomiting. Gastric repletion after eating even so little.

Nux vomica – Long lasting violent heat with great thirst. Great coldness relieved neither by warmth of stove nor by covering in bed. Shivering chilliness increased by slightest contact with open air. Sweat without thirst, with chilliness from motion or allowing the air to strike him.

Phosphorus – Heat and sweat at night with ravenous hunger that could not be appeased. (Hunger at every stage : Cina). Sweat profuse over whole body and on slightest exertion. Wants cold food, ice-cream, ice-water.

Pulsatilla – Anxious heat as if dashed with hot water. Heat of single parts Intolerable, burning heat at night in bed. He is hot, wishes to be uncovered. External warmth is intolerable. Fever : thirst at 2 a.m., then chill at 4 p.m. without thirst. No two paroxysms alike.

Natrum mur. – Long and severe chill from 10 to 11 a.m. Chattering of teeth. Thirst: drinking often and much at a time. Violent headache. Heat with increased thirst and intolerable hammering headache. Sweat profuse, gradually relieves all pains except headache. Heat is characterized by the most violent headache relieved by perspiration. (African experience : A handful of salt is thoroughly roasted on a slow fire, a tablespoon is dissolved in a glass of water; taken in the morning following the paroxysms, on an empty stomach. No food or drink must be taken for 48 hours. If very thirsty, sips of water may be taken. – Therapeutic of Fevers Allen – P-277).

Rhus tox. – Chill as if ice-water were dashed on him. Heat excessive as if dashed with hot water. Restless, constantly changing position without finding any easy place. Urticaria over entire body itching violently. Apyrexia: Hydroa on upper lip, as characteristic as with Natrum mur. (a case cured).

Pyrogenium Cause – Septic Condition following sewer gas poisoning; or after effects of miscarriage; puerperal fever; dissecting wound. Chilliness that no fire would warm; must have fresh air for relief. Frequent urging to urinate as soon as fever comes on. Can tell when fever is coming. Great throbbing of temporal arteries. Septic fever 103-106. Bed feels hard; pulse quick out of all proportion to temperature, or the reverse.
