Juice Therapy: Recommended Juices for Treating Headache (Including Migraine), Heartburn, Liver Disorders, Menorrhagia, Motion Sickness and Muscle Cramps

Headache (including migraine):

Headache is merely a symptom wliich is caused by factors, such as fever, nasal congestion, sinusitis, tension, stress, lack of sleep and proper diet, malnutrition, catarrh. But, migraine is caused by mental tension; stress, strain, any sort of worry, constipation, irregular and indiscreet food intake, one-sided, (only left or only right-sided, headache) which is often accompained by nausea and vomiting is, in most cases, relieved by vomiting or in some cases, by snuffing too. Hemicrama is also another type migraine but the only difference is, it is more on one-sided, and there is no nausea or vomiting.

Some people maintain that left-sided headache is caused by mental tension, but right-sided headache is often a cause arising from abuse of diet. Water-melon juice is of immense benefit in summer. Green coconut juice, apple, lime, orange juice is a general tonic for the head complaints. Taking black coffee is also said to relieve migraine, if it suits a patient. Above all, as a first requisite, try to eliminate the basic cause and if there is no relief, in that case only, change-over to dietary regimen and modifications are to be tried. But fruit and vegetables’ juices are an almost infallible remedies which have both curative and preventive qualities.

For relaxation of muscles take garlic, parsley, collard greens, ginger roots also. A mixture of apple, carrots and some ginger or else ginger tea are also eulogised to provide quick relief. Apply thick paste of doses on temples, outside congested nasal cavities, but ensure the liquid does not spill over to eyes. Even local application of mint can relieve a patient from migraine and headache in general. It may be pointed out that, if migraine is not contained at the initial onset of symptoms, it may spread over to its full course (say 7-10 days); hence nip it in the bud.

Heartburn :

Burning sensation in the food pipe, after taking meals, is known as heart-burning, because food pipe is located in the vicinity of heart region. It is caused by heavy, excessive, spicy, fatty, meat diet, too much and too often use of tobacco, alcohol and other intoxicants, including drug-induced burning sensation. Juice of lime and lemon, with addition of a pinch of rock-salt will relieve heart burn. In addition, papaya, tomato, cucumber, marmelos will aid in dispelling heart-burning.

Liver Disorders:

Excess in bile, sugar, frequent use of spices, liquors, tobacco, strong drugs, other intoxicants, chronic constipation, use of catharides may cause many liver problems. Here, we will only discuss malfunction of the liver and how to tone up and normalise its function, instead of harping on a lengthy list of hepatic disorders. Liver is the bulkiest and one of the most important organs of our body. Our entire system cannot function if it does not have liver.

Medicines can help only at the very initial stage of an infection but, in the advanced stages, no medicine can take hold of serious liver disorders, because most of its disorders are irreversible and incorrigible. But, by constant adherance to fruit and vegetable juices or their raw use will rectify the diseased liver and many other attendant complaints. lime juice, juice of marmelos or jam, soup of green plantain and green papaya will provide much-needed relief. Even tomatoes are quite useful, if taken in half-ripe form. All said and done, jam of raw marmelos, papaya juice will invariably do a lot of good to your liver.

Menorrhagia:

The term stands for excessive bleeding from vagina, during menstrual period. Excessive bleeding may also be triggered by frequent child-bearing, during delivery periods, due to malignant tumours in the uterus, hypertension. It may also be a common and regular complaint (habitual menstrual bleeding) with certain ladies. Vaginal bleeding should not be confused with uterine bleeding. Excessive bleeding is a common complaint at menopause (Period of cessation of menses) and is a natural sequence thereof but, even in this case, juice therapy, suggested hereinafter, can do immense help to ameliorate major complaint, as also other complaints.

Juice of fig and plantain flower will reduce (menstrual) flow of blood and also tone up genital system in general. If juice of apple, garlic, orange, lime may also taken in addition to the former. Though we do not suggest a complete inert and sedentary life, yet complete rest, in bed, is a must, at least during entire period of bleeding. The woman must attend to her personal requirements and daily routine needs herself, but without exerting herself to the point of utter exhaustion and debility.

Motion Sickness:

This is also known as ‘Travel sickness’ which can happen during rail, road, air or sea travel or even while moving nominally, especially those who take to long foot-journeys or are habitual travelers. Generally observed symptoms of sickness, due to motion, are; vomiting, nausea, headache, vertigo while sailing, flying traveling in buses, other automobiles or trains, boats/steamers. Generally, if you embark upon traveling, immediately after taking meals, you may have nausea and/or vomiting, which are offshoots of travel/motion sickness.

Hence never travel, by any mode of travel, on empty stomach or full stomach. So, it is always better to cat lightly, before moving out. Take juice of spinach, kale, strawberry, turnip, lettuce and broccoli which will supply vitamins K, B6, and ‘C’ in large quantities. During travel, suck lemon juice with some rock-salt. Generally speaking, ginger use will treat all sorts of travel sickness.

Muscle Cramps:

Due to over exertion, inadequate blood flow, imbalance of calcium, sodium, potassium or magnesium (known as imbalance of electrolytes), lack of water, involuntary contractions, with pain at times, may be felt and these muscular contractions are called muscle cramps. Muscular cramp and pain may also be triggered by dehydration (lack of water in body), muscle irritation, cold temperature, over exercise etc. If muscle cramps are caused by cold, keep your feet warm with the help of socks.

Always maintain sodium-water balance of the body. It is advisable to dilute, with fruit and vegetable juices -specially to remove cramps as a consequence of exercise. Avoid taking tea, soft drinks, coffee which precipitate dehydration, by causing excessive Unary flow. Even standing at one place, for longer periods, can also cause simple or painful cramps.

Juice of Beet, celery and carrot supply sodium, water-cress, kale arid collard green supply calcium; magnesium is supplied by parsley and collard greens, carrot and kale supply potassium; spinach, asparagus and carrot supply vitamin ‘E’, and \vitamin ‘C is supplied by Red pepper, Collaed green and Kale. Vitamin ‘B’ cannot be obtained from juices of vegetables and fruits and, as such, they are to be supplemented through B-complex tablets or syrup, about which your physician can advise and guide you.
