Modern Medicine: Treatment for Anuria (Failure of kidneys to produce urine)

Reference may be first made to various parts of human body involved in the process of urination and also the relevant functions performed by each of the organs as a preliminary knowledge will certainly help in understanding various diseases attributed to each organ.

As all of us know, urine is one of the waste products of human body. As long as urinary flow is normal, no major problem is likely to be encountered. But, when urinary flow is profuse/ retarded/restricted/painful, is not transparent, there is a burning sensation before, during or after passing urine, when there is passage of frank blood or R.B.C.S, pus, escape of vital elements, one doesn’t pass urine even after visiting the closet repeatedly, when consistency is thick, turbid and coloured, when there is pain while passing urine – all these situations are not normal conditions and point out to some sort of undetecded malady or cause.

If ever you notice anyone or most of the above mentioned symptoms, you should get alarmed, but there is no reason to be panicky or disturbed. If a symptom is noticed at the inception stage, the malady can be managed easily and without much expense and effort.

Whenever you experience any complaint, first of all look for food deviations indulged in or whether body was overtaxed and starved of reasonable rest, quantity of water intake, hard drinks consumed, if any, or whether desire to pass urine was suppressed or was there any injury or accident sustained.

It has been noticed that urinary problems are more rampant in males than females, even though urogenital system of females is much more complex and complicated. Majority of toxic and impure elements get automatically discharged during the menstrual period, provided the same is regular. But, in man, this is not the case. Here we are discussing disorders relating only to urinary organs and not reproductive organs, even if there is a close inter-relation between the two systems.

It is also a fact that women suffer more from reproductive disorders than men but, then, men are far more valnerable to diseases of urinary origin that women, though glaring exceptions cannot be ruled out. Women’s reproductive system is for more complicated than that of men.

Formation of urinary stones is a common problem in both the sexes. There arc certain regions in our Country where stone formation is quite common. Similarly certain food items, habits, climatic conditions, intake of excess of certain minerals, water, are also the known causes for major chunk of urinary diseases. So, while treating any case of urinary problem, all the said and many other factors must be taken into Consideration. I recollect the case of a young police D.S.P who approached his D.G. of Police for a transfer. When questioned about the reason for transfer, the officer told his boss that there was deficiency of Calcium in the water where he was posted.

The D.G.P shot back and advised his junior officer to take Calcium powder/tablets to Circumvent for the calcium deficiency. 1 have quoted this instance that deficiency of any mineral can be compensated by extra dose of the deficient mineral. You cannot change the place at your sweet will, but can always take preventive and corrective steps to offset effects of deficiencies/excesses.

Most of the urinary diseases can be easily controlled and contained, if not fully cured, by dietary regimen, abstaining from known harmful food items, by regulating pattern and style of life, taking to moderate physical activity, regular hours of sleep and rest, by abjuring fast foods, junk foods, stale and putrid eatables, smoking, drinking, too much and too frequent use of spices, condiments, fats, drugs, narcotics, lavish late night parties.

It is repeated that extremes like total sedentary life, and doing no work, or else overtaxing and straining by continuous laborious work is not the key to a regulated life pattern. In any case, never exceed the limits of your capacity. Your body wilts under utmost pressure and also becomes idolent and sloth without activity. If you study closely and carefully a functioning machine, you will easily understand, how and in which way to handle your body.

If you are regular in your habits, in relation to work, eating habits & rest, you are not likely to encounter any problem, but, if laws of nature are flouted with impunity, the diseases will take better of you. In case of any disorder, first try to manage yourself and search for as to where you had erred and, if that error has been rectified by corrective measures, you will be able to get rid of physical problems.

It is not that only dietary deviations and indiscretions could land you in trouble. The fact of the matter remains that mental peace, if disturbed, can cause immense damage because almost all of our activities are guided by brain. When brain is at unrest, the body cannot remain at rest, and it is equally true in the reverse direction also. If healthy mind stays in a healthy body, it is equally important that body also must remain healthy so as to keep the mind in good humour.

Body is simply an ardent executor to translate various commands of brain (or say mind) into action. When mind is upset, function of endocrine glans gets adversely affected and when there is less or more secretion from some glands, entire physical chemistry gets disturbed. Endocrine glands play an important role in guiding, motivating and supporting our activities, inclinations, actions, tendencies, habits etc. I have stated earlier also that there is a close relation between body, mind and all the endocrine glands, hence an effort should always be made to keep a proper balance amongst these three important organs.

As for clinical investigations, there is no harm if one could be more precise and specific in order to determine as to at which stage a disease stands. It helps to select the most uitable remedy, spend far less time and money, when both the doctor and patient stand to benefit. So, never adopt any lopsided and casual approach, rather try to be precise and specific, as far as possible.

Treatment : Apply differential methods of diagnosis and try to locate the underlying cause(s) which, when detected, will facilitate and pave the way for proper treatment. In most of the cases proper use of the catheter will help to determine the diagnosis. This is a serious and complicate disease, hence no time should be wasted and frittered away in conjectures or experiments nor should such cases be handled at domestic level. Immediately rush the patient to a Urologist, in a hospital or nursing home where all the requisite facilities are available.

Anuria is a resultant and fall-out symptom of Uremia (excess of urea in the blood) which may be reversed and improved upon by resort to ‘Hemeodialysis’ but, all said and done, time is the greatest factor which must not be wasted. Except bland liquids and areated water nothing else should be given, but do not serve chilled/cooled in winter. Read the following details and description of Uremia. Brain and/or heart may also be affected, hence do not neglect these episodes also.
