Siddhasana

• Assume a sitting posture with legs straight in front of the body.
• Bend the right leg from the knee and draw the heel close to the perineum; the leg from the knee to the heel must lie flat along the floor.
• Now bend the left leg at the knee and place it by foot on top of the right calf.
• The legs should be locked with the knees on the ground, and right and left heel should remain very close to each other.
• Stretch the arms out and the back of hands on the knees, palms upward.
• Make the spine straight, erect and steady, join the thumbs and forefingers together to make a circle and extend other fingers straight out.

Preksha Yoga: Maha Mudra, Gyan Mudra, Sambhavi Mudra,Tadagi Mudra, Kaki Mudra, Bhujanini Mudra, Ashwini Mudra, Yoni Mudra and Akashi Mudra

In the sacred ancient yoga texts it has been mentioned that mudras are more powerful than asanas and pranayama as they are instrumental in awakening the hidden serpent power in human being — the Kundalini shakti. In Gherand Samhifa, the most authentic yoga text, 25 odd mudras are explained. A mudra is a specific position representing specific state of psyche. Sometimes mudras are being used to regulate several involuntary physiological and biochemical activities. Mudras have been proved to help in developing self awareness about the flow of vital energy in the subtle body. Mudras also enhance spiritual orientation and promote the process of self healing as well as psychic healing.

Preksha Yoga: Kayotsarga (Relaxation)

Tense, overwrought, nervous and anxious, modern man is caught up in the hellish grind which drives him inexorably into stress, because his constant state of anxiety prevents him from facing up to the relentless demand of modern life which, behind an amiable and comfortable exterior, conceals an inhuman machine and an unrelenting struggle for existence. It is really surprising, then, that millions of civilized beings live with depressing feeling that they are ‘out of step’, overlaid by apparently impossible tasks with which they cannot possibly cope, and from which they can never escape.

Preksha Yoga: Instant Relaxation Technique (IRT), Quick Relaxation Technique (QRT) and Deep Relaxation Technique (DRT)

These three relaxation techniques were developed by Vivekananda Kendra Yoga Research Foundation, Bangalore. These are quite effective and easy-to-perform relaxation techniques. IRT can be practised after every individual exercise for a short duration. QRT or DRT can be performed after the asanas or independently between the daily routine to provide adequate and real rest to the body systems.

Preksha Yoga: Preksha Yoga to Cure Headache

Headache is such a common complaint that can occur for so many different reasons that its proper evaluation may be difficult. The intensity, quality and site of pain — and especially the duration of the headache and the pressure of associated neurologic symptoms — may provide clues to the underlying cause. The onset of severe headache in a previously healthy patient is more likely than chronic headache to relate to an intracranial disorder such as subarachnoid haemorrhage or meningitis.

Preksha Yoga: Preksha Yoga to Treat Thyroid and Hypothyroidism

Thyroid Diseases

The thyroid gland is located, immediately below the larynx on either side of and anterior to the trachea. It secretes large amounts of two hormones: thyroxin(T4) and triiodothyroxine(T3). These hormones have a profound effect on the metabolic rate of the body, which includes build-up and replacement of tissues, storage of energy, breakdown of tissues and utilization of the energy produced in the cells. It also secretes calcitonin, a hormone that is important for calcium metabolism.
