Magnet Therapy: Modern Research on Magnet Therapy

Philpott, who has co-authored Brain Allergies: The Psycho-Nutrient Connection, Victory Over Diabetes: A Bio-Ecologic Triumph, Biomagnetic Handbook: A Guide to Medical Magnets, The Energy Medicine of Tomorrow and several other books, summarises the benefits of magnetism as follows:

• Encourages restorative sleep
• Reduces or alleviates pain
• Dissolves calcium deposits around arthritic joints
• Assists body cells in fighting infections
• Reduces resting heart rate
• Increases oxygenation to body cells
• Alleviates the symptoms of Magnetic Field Deficiency Syndrome.

Magnetic Field Deficiency Syndrome was identified in Japan in the late 1950’s. It is characterised by symptoms like lack of energy, insomnia, generalised aches and pains, upper back and neck stiffness, frequent headaches, dizziness, constipation, etc. These symptoms closely correlate with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

As usual, the Japanese were in the forefront of research. It resulted in the approval by the Japanese Minister of Health & Welfare in 1961 for the manufacture and sale of magnetic therapeutic devices.

The manufacture and sale of magnetic therapeutic devices is now the 20th largest industry in Japan. Thirty million Japanese use a therapeutic device according to Nikken Corporation. They have found it useful for deep muscle pain, stiffness, arthritic symptoms and other related problems. Magnets also dramatically increase the healing time in non-union fractures.

The magnetic field produced by permanent magnets is a safe, natural energy source. There are no harmful exposure levels and no limitations by governmental agencies. Galen, noted Greek physician, author and educator, referred to magnetism as an excellent purgative (laxative).
