Eye Care: How to Test Your Eyes?

Always get your eyes tested by a doctor (particularly an eye specialist) and not by opticians who cannot judge whether you are suffering from any eye disorder. Following points may be kept in mind, before you approach an eye specialist:

□ Do not get your eyes tested for vision when you are having, headache, stress, fever, pain, redness, itching, lacrimation, swelling or any other disorder.

□ Tell your doctor about the complaints you suffer from in your simple language and do not use any technical term, the meaning of which is not clear to you, as it can convey wrong message.

□ Before getting your eye-sight tested relax for 5-10 minutes— it is important when you are coming in from glaring light, sunrays and cold winds

□ Preferably wash your eyes before testing (but not when eyes are red, swollen, painful and blurred).

□ If you are wearing glasses, first get your eye sight tested without glasses and then after wearing your spectacles.

□ During the course of testing, advice your doctor if you feel any discomfort and/or abnormality.

□ Always show your spectacles to your doctor, enabling him to compare the previous and new numbers.

□ Diabetics should get their eyes tested after every 6 months to ascertain whether retina is normal or not.
