Modern Medicine: Treatment for Dysuria (Painful Urination)

This situation arises when there is painful or difficult urination which is generally associated with frequency and urgency of urine, when urinary flow may be interrupted, may be partial or even scanty – especially when cystitis or urethritis be the cause.

Causes & Symptoms

(i) Some obstructive pathology, like stone in the urinary passage.
(ii) cutting pain before, during or after urination – Pain, at times, being unbearable and the patient is afraid to pass urine.
(iii) Eating spicy, fatty, pungent food or taking alcohol, tobacco, citrus fruits, dry fruits etc.
(iv) Low intake of oral fluids.

Treatment

Take 1 -2 TSP of’Alkasol’ with water, 3-4 times daily and 1 Tablet of Septran – D.S twice daily (if infection is suspected or present). If 1/3 TSP of sodium-bi-carbonate is taken with water, it will remove burning, stinging sensation and pain, but take it 2-3 times a day at an interval of 4-6 hours but never beyond that, as it may cause onset of loose motions. Fresh juice of orange or Mousambi (sweet only) may be taken 3-4 times daily. If coconut water is taken, even at short intervals, it will dispel almost all, if not all, the problems. Take papaya (ripe fruit) but without addition of any spices or salt.

It is repeated that burning sensation in urine is indicative of some sort of infection in the urinary passage, and must be investigated before using any medicine. If infection has been detected, it is better to get the urine tested for culture and sensitivity (urine for c/s test) so that the most suitable and appropriate medicine is taken right from the beginning.
