Modern Medicine: Treatment for Nephralgia (Renal Colic) Calculi

All these terms are interrelated. Whenever there is pain in the kidney, it is usually attributed to presence of some sort of infection or of presence of stone in the kidney. Pain is only one of the leading symptoms of kidney infections. Nephralgia is the pain felt at the moment when a stone is about to leave the kidney.

Nephralgia can also be caused when there is painful/retarded urination or when some stone travels up-and-down the kidney or when kidney gets bloated due to accumulation and resultant non-void-ance of urine.

Pain is unbearable, excruciating, travelling from kidneys to urethra or even penis. There is great stangury / hesitancy, desire to visit the closet at short intervals but quantity of urine passed is only in drops or none at all or else in a broken/divided stream. The pain radiates from loins to groins or thighs or testicles, and is of cutting and rhythmic nature. As soon as free flow of urine gets restored, pain subsides. There could also be passage of pus and/ or blood with urine.

Treatment

If urinary retention or obstruction is the cause give Vz or 1 tablet of’Lasix’ which, in most cases, will restore urinary flow. Also give anti-spasmodic drugs (mentioned earlier) or injection thereof to have quicker relied from pain. Hot water fomentation or sitting in a tub and messaging the abdomen and allied areas from kidneys to downwards may be gently massaged in clockwise and anticlockwise directions.

Take plenty of water or other oral liquids like coconut water, some milk mixed water (Ratio 1:8), aerated soda water or boil silky hair of corn in water and take 4-5 times.
