Cause(s)<\/p>\n
It is not known. A diseased gall-bladder having gall-stones which irritate its wall may make it more liable to develop cancer.<\/p>\n
Symptoms<\/p>\n
The symptoms are vague. Abdominal discomfort, or pain in the upper abdomen or under the right ribs. These are:<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Indigestion.
\n\u00b7 Loss of appetite.
\n\u00b7 Loss of weight.
\n\u00b7 Jaundice in the later stages.<\/p>\n
Diagnosis<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Routine: Blood: Hb, RBC, TLC, DLC may be normal.
\n\u00b7 Special: Cholecystography
\n\u00b7 Ultrasonoscopy of the gall-bladder.
\n\u00b7 Biopsy examination after opening the abdomen surgically, confirms the diagnosis.<\/p>\n
Treatment<\/p>\n
The patient usually presents herself\/himself in the later stages of the disease when it has infiltrated and spread in the surrounding areas. Hence, the cure is usually not possible. Vague symptoms lead to late diagnosis.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Surgery: It may be of some help, only in the early stages.
\n\u00b7 Radiation: It can lessen the symptoms and keep the disease under control for some time.
\n\u00b7 Chemotherapy: It is given, but is not curative.<\/p>\n
