Cold and catarrh relate to similar conditions, when the mucous membranes of the nose and the throat glands are inflamed, causing sneezing, running of the nose and cough. Such a condition of the nose is called as ‘the cold’ and that in which the throat feels irritation and cough is called the ‘catarrh’.

There is close relationship of the ear, nose and throat. All are connected with the Eustachian tubes, which are covered with mucous membrane for their whole length.

The ear, nose, throat and mouth are linked with the upper part of the elementary canal by the mucous membrane and through the canal, they are linked with the stomach and intestines.

Thus, whenever food in excess of requirement is taken, and toxic conditions appear in them, nature strives to throw off the toxins as ‘catarrh’ through the channels of throat, mouth, nose and ear.

Treatment

Medical Science, in the treatment of the lymphoid tissues of the nose and the throat, advise the removal of tonsils and adenoids, which are protective glands and when once removed, the defence and the detoxifying mechanism of the upper body is impaired and affected, resulting in all kinds of diseases, not only in the upper body, but down the elementary canal also.

As for Nature-cure of all kinds of catarrh, or cough a diet of fruits only should be observed for 10 to 15 days, thereafter coming to normal natural diet.

During this period, bowels should be kept clean by warm enema every night. Also, all directions in the treatment by Nature-cure should be followed. Hip-bath, breathing exercises and yoga practices should be continued.

As for local treatment, ‘Jal-neti’ or ‘Jal-dhoti’ should be practised. A few drops of lemon in water be sniffed. For the throat, have gargle with warm water, slightly mixed with lemon.

Cold and catarrh relate to similar conditions, when the mucous membranes of the nose and the throat glands are inflamed, causing sneezing, running of the nose and cough.
