A – DIET

I. Fast on fruit juice till fever subsides. Take a glass of fresh fruit juice, diluted with water on 50:50 basis, every two hours. Use warm-water enema daily during the day.

II. An all-fruit diet for further two days, taking three meals a day of fresh juicy fruits at five-hourly intervals.

The patient should undertake a fast in both acute and chronic cases. In acute cases, the patient will usually recover after a short fast of two or three days. In chronic condition, the fast may have to be continued for a longer period of seven days or so. Goitre generally refers to the enlargement of the thyroid gland. It is usually marked by uniform swelling in the neck in front of windpipe. It can, however, also occur without any swelling of the neck. Women are more prone to this disease.

The thyroid gland is the best known as ductless glands. It is situated in the neck just below the larynx or ‘Adam’s Apple’. It has two lobes, one on each side of the windpipe. It regulates the metabolism of the body – the physical and chemical processes essential to life and activity.
