Modern Medicine: Treatment for Fungal Infections (Ring Worm)

It is a known fact fungus breeds under moisture, hence where there is moisture on the skin severe irritation, cropped pimples and foul smell are bound to surface. The dermatologist will get a scraping from the affected area and examive the same under microscope and, if his diagnosis conforms fungal infection (Candida), then antiungal treatment is given.

Ring worm is a fungal and moneliasis infection which may involve any part of the body. It may also spread though hair brushes, Combs, barber’s instruments, Causing a patchy hair loss. It may start as a papule which might spread to adjourning area(s) leaving a central Coin shaped clean area. Itching sensation is another characteristic feature of fungal infections which general centres around thick hairy skin-folds like armpits and thighs.

Local Disinfectants and antibiotics used for a prolonged period and repetitively may cause skin sensitivity and local irritation (as in the case of Providone Iodine preparations)

‘Acyclover’s generally indicated and used for the treatment of infections due to Herpes simplex a kind infections. It is said to reduce pain and shedding of virus, thus accelerating the healing process. It is more effective when used at the early stage ofthe disease but, when used at the primary stage, it may not succeed in preventing recurring infection and virus latency. All the same, it is quite effective in immuno Compromised patients.

Griseofulvin (250 mg tablet per dose) is almost a specific drug for ring worm and other fungus infictions. The medicine can be taken thrice daily (Maximum dose not to exceed 750 mg in 24 hours), but the treatment has to be continued for 1 -3 weeks, and for 1 -2 mouths if toes are involved. Prolonged and unnecessary use of this drug may cause gastrice upsets, headache or/and allergy to sunlight (Photosensitivity reactions). Locally preparations based on miconazole Nitrate (Gel or Cream) may be applied but under medical supervision only.
