Modern Medicine: Treatment for Pruritis (Intense itching)

Pruritis is actually itching, Caused by local irritation of the skin or, at times, due to Nervous disorders also (“Severe itching is a symptom of same forms of Jaundice”-1 larrision). In women, pruritis of the vulva is caused by some vaginal infection or yeast organisms that usually flourish in diabetes (especially when there is sugar in the urine. Piles, intestinal worms, poor hygiene may cause anal pruritis. Pruritis on and around genitals, armpits or other hairy parts may be caused by sweating, diabetes, leuccorrheal flow or use of synthetic garments.

First try to locate the causes. When the cause has been discerned, diagnoses and treatment will be easier, as elimination of Contributory causes leads to right type of treatment. For instance, if sugar level is brought down in drabetes pruritis will automatically disappear. On pruritis in vulva, and around genitals may be controlled by proper hygiene, diabetes, and leucorrhoeal flow. Anal prursitis can be dispelled by taking worm killing drugs and by proper hygiene. Vaginal pruritis is quite common in Nymphomanial girls In urtiCaria, an intense itching is a Common symptom.

To quell immediate problem take any antiallergic drug, (described earlier) like Avil, Cadestin, Polaramine, Practin, Tyxyne, Zadine, Incid-L, Histazine etc, Almost all the above mentioned drugs cause drowsiness, hence do not operate any machinery, drive any vehicle, move out alone or apply brain closely. Some patients-may have blurred vision, dry mouth, dizziness etc. Use under medical supervision only. Persons with low blood pressure, slow pulse rate, anaemia, any heart disease should be extra careful in using antihistamine drugs.

Note:- No one can assert with Confidence as to which medicine will suit a person, unless effects are well known before hand. Prolonged use of any drug may cause resistance. If one drug has proved effective on one or more earlier occasions, it doesn’t imply that same benefit can be derived at all the times identically.

There are other skin infections like Leprosy, leucoderma, Pendiculosis (Lice), Daudruff, dryness/oiliness of skin which are known to most of people (except leprosy, lencoderma which should be treated by skin specialists only) and many branded medicines are available to treat them.

It is once again reiterated that no skin lotion, cream, gel, ointment should be applied over any are surface of skin due to sudden reactions, as most patients show reaction, to such medicines, whether used orally or locally Do not hesitate or detay in informing your doctor, if any reaction occurs at any time, during the Course of medication. Further, do not use any Cortcosteroid without medical advice / supervision as gradual tapering of dose can be done only a doctor.
