Natural Remedies: Therapeutic and Diuretic Properties of Cardamom, Coconut, Cucumber, Dandelion and Drumstick Flower

Cardamom

Cardamom helps increase the secretion and discharge of urine. Its powdered seeds, mixed with a tablespoon of banana leaf and Indian goosebery juice, taken thrice a day, serve as a valuable diuretic food. It is very effective in treating diseases like gonorrhoea, cystitis, nephritis, burning micturition or urination and scanty urination.

Coconut

The coconut water is a very effective diuretic food. It contains a very high concentration of potassium and chlorine in sterilized water. It is of exceptional value in urinary disorders. It acts as a natural diuretic in heart, liver and kidney disorders such as scanty and suppressed urination, albuminuria, dropsy, high acidity of urine and gonorrhoea. It is one of the cheapest food diuretics that protect from the bad effects of excessive use of oral chlorothiazide diuretics. In case of kidney failure, coconut water should be very carefully given under the strict supervision of a physician.

Cucumber

Cucumber is one of the most important diuretic foods. Its juice has been found very effective in treating urinary system disorders like bladder infection, nephritis and scanty urination. A glass of this juice should be taken twice daily mixed with two teaspoons of honey and a teaspoon of limejuice. It will act as a powerful diuretic in the treatment of these diseases.

Dandelion

Dandelion is a hardy perennial herb and a tasty salad vegetable. It has a remarkable nutritional value. It contains almost as much iron as spinach, four times the vitamin A content of lettuce and is a very rich source of magnesium, potassium, vitamin C, calcium and sodium. It also contains protein, fat and carbohydrates.

Dandelion is a diuretic food. It increases secretion and discharge of urine. Tea made from its buds, flowers, fresh leaves or even blanched leaves, can be beneficially used in urinary disorders like retention of urine and slow start to pass urine. It is essential to drink lots of water and other harmless drinks with this treatment. Tender leaves of dandelion can be used as a salad vegetable. They can also be cooked in a little boiling water or in combination with spinach and cooked in the same way. Soup can also be made with chopped dandelion leaves. The dried leaves are used for tea and as an ingredient in diet drinks.

Drumstick Flower

The drumstick is a fairly common vegetable grown all over India. It is valued mainly for the tender pod. It is antibacterial and a wonderful cleanser. The flowers of drumstick tree are a diuretic food. Fresh juice should be extracted from these flowers. A teaspoon of this juice, mixed with half a glass of tender coconut water, makes an excellent diuretic medicine and can be taken twice daily in treating conditions like bladder infection with beneficial results.
