Aromatherapy: Properties of Peppermint Oil

Peppermint is another plant that has the honor of mythological creation in ancient Greece. According to the legend, there was once a nymph called Mentha who was beloved of Pluto. Persephone, the mate of the underworld god, pursued the nymph in a fit of jealousy. On finding her, the goddess trampled the nymph into the ground.

Through the magick of Pluto, Mentha rose again as the wonderfully fragrant plant we now know as mint. Because of its almost universal usage, pepper-mint oil is a staple for many who practice the arts of aromatherapy. It has its place in cooking, health, magick, and cosmetics, and is not limited to the world of arcane arts and sciences, as evidenced in its use in toothpaste, mouthwashes, teas, candies, deodorizers, and cold remedies, to name but a few.
