What is a gland?

The human body contains many glands. They are small sac like structures, each of which secrete various substances. Some called endocrine glands secrete hormones. The glands which are associated with obesity are: the pituitary, which is located at the base of the brain; the thyroid,located in front of and on either side of the windpipe ; the adrenals, two small glands located above each kidney ; the pancreas, lying behind the stomach ; and the sex glands – the ovaries in females and the testes in males. The secretions of each of these glands are important in relation to your individual body chemistry. Each of the secretions of all your glands perform a specific function for your body. Some of these function relate to obesity.

Let us understand what takes place in the body when you eat and drink.
Chewing and swallowing : you take food into your mouth, grind it up and swallow.
Digestion : you break down food into small components.
Absorption : you take these small components from the gastro-intestinal tract into your blood stream.
Assimilation : you reassemble these small components in the liver and use them as building blocks.
Excretion : you get rid of waste materials by breathing, perspiring, urinating or defecting.

The scientific evidence is that the vitamin C in lemon juice helps repair worn out tissue but does not destroy fat. Lemon juice may be healthful as a source of nutrients, but it is valueless as a treatment for obesity. Lemon juice has no action on fat whatsoever.

Why should I reduce?

The success of a weight-reducing programme is based on extreme co-operation and motivation on the part of an obese person. You have to want to reduce.

Anyone who wants to reduce must feel strongly enough about it so that he will adhere to a reasonable reducing-regimen and adhere to it full time. One cannot follow it five days a week and hope for results. As you will see my plan for a Balanced-Nutrient Diet requires certain adjustments in eating habits. Nothing drastic. Just sensible eating. Perhaps substituting fruits for fried foods as a snack. But you have to make these re-adjustments rigidly. You have to build up your will-power. You have to realize that fat is not just a matter of not looking good or a cosmetic problem. It is a major health problem to millions and millions of people in every area of life.
